Day 4--getting to work

After we got back from the tour through the city, we got to work. Half of us stayed outside to work on landscaping while the other half of us tackled the rooms. It was a very powerful day for us, especially after seeing the lower 9th ward and the other areas that were so devastated. We felt like we had purpose and we took great joy when we saw noticeable results in our work. I think that is why those who did the landscaping felt so rewarded afterward--they could see the positive (and drastic) difference when they were done. Although, it was the same when we got the hallways cleaned out or finished a room. When we left that day we were comforted by the fact that the building had begun to look inhabitable again. This gave us hope and a feeling of relief knowing that people would soon be able to move back in.

Sean with his camera. I like this pic.

This is what the nun's room that I mentioned earlier looked like before it was cleaned out. It was surprisingly not that bad. In fact, it was the only room in which the refrigerator did not have bugs and there was no smell. We all had a hard time getting rid of things in there because she clearly had not come back for anything. Her room was immaculate--fitting for a nun, I guess.

James is all that is man! (or so he says)

Okay, so I thought this picture was hilarious...

Kelly's biggest fan!

This was a disturbing find!

Sean loved his weed wacker

Standing proud, with loud machines!

Talk about symbolism...this day was full of it.

Look at the cross that emerged out of one of our furniture smashings.
